24 new teachers take oath of office

MAYOR Celso Lobregat started the first day of his last two years in office by swearing in 24 new teachers hired through the Local School Board (LSB) in simple oath-taking rites Friday at Zamboanga City Hall Conference room.
Of the 24 newly hired teachers, 18 are assigned in the different public secondary schools and six in different elementary schools all over the city.
The teachers officially started their work Friday after the oath taking and orientation.
They passed the rigorous interview in City Hall last June 29.
Over 100 applicants applied for the 24 vacant positions.
In his message, Lobregat emphasized what he termed as the hallmark of his last two years in office — that is the 5Cs, which stands for Conscience, Commitment and Consistency, Competence and Courage.
Lobregat told the newly-hired teachers “to have conscience for them to know and discern what is right, commitment and consistency for them to do right all the time not just sometimes or some of the time, competence for them to know how to do right, and courage so that they can distinguished what is right and popular and do what is always right.”
“In the next two years (of my administration), I will really ask much more from you, but rest assured I will not ask anything from you that I myself will not be ready to do,” he said.
Lobregat echoed the same message before the teachers and more than 7,000 students of the Zamboanga National High School (ZCHS)-West as they celebrated Friday their foundation anniversary.
“Be the examples for your students. That is leading and teaching by example. Don’t expect your students to do it for you. I ask all of you to practice the 5Cs,” he told the ZNHS-West teachers headed by the principal, Dr. Henry Ongchua.
The mayor unveiled the hallmark of his last two years in office during the First Friday mass at City Hall, which was also attended by second district Congressman Erico Basilio Fabian and the entire workforce of the City Government.
