2,711 displaced families in Bataan, Zambales get aid

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided assistance to 2,711 families or 11,895 persons displaced by Tropical Depression “Egay” in Bataan and Zambales.
DSWD Secretary Corazon Juliano-Soliman said food packs, clothing, and other basic items were sent to the five evacuation centers in the two provinces sheltering the victims.
She also said that the agency has provided food packs worth P125,000 to some 355 passengers stranded in Sorsogon port due to “Egay”.
At present, social welfare and development teams of the DSWD field offices are monitoring their respective areas for any significant incident caused by the new Tropical Depression “Falcon” spotted in Samar area.
Soliman said all DSWD units in Northern and Central Luzon, Bicol, the Visayas, Cotabato, and other areas affected by the rains are still on alert and ready to assist the affected families.
She also said the agency’s units in various areas are told to stockpile the necessary goods for immediate distribution to victims.
Secretary Soliman accompanied President Benigno Aquino III in Cotabato on Wednesday to personally assess the extent of flooding in the area and the needs of the affected families.
