30 Aetas get jobs from Clark corporation

CLARK FREEPORT — The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) has provided jobs to 30 Aetas who recently completed a manpower training program of the Porac Manpower Training Center and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).
CDC president Felipe Antonio Remollo said the state-owned corporation has guaranteed the employment of the 30 graduates, who were among the 142 Aetas who completed the program at the municipality’s training center in Barangay Cangatba.
Remollo said the Aetas will be employed in various firms from the garments and industrial electronics industry.
He added that of the 142 Aeta graduates, 39 of them completed the computer literacy course offered by Tesda; in automotive, 5; building wiring, 32; electronics, 14; massage therapy, 18; industrial sewing machine operation, 21; and dressmaking, 13.
In a related development, Remollo recently announced that the number of workers in the Clark Freeport increased by 7,000 in the past year.
From May 2010 to May this year, Remollo said at least 7,867 workers were hired by several multi-national firms here, including two newly-opened companies — Phoenix Semiconductor Philippines and Texas Instruments.
He said the surge in employment statistics at the Clark Freeport was due to the expansion activities of top Japanese export firms like Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc., several Business Process Outsourcing firms, and the $200-million tourism projects of Korean firm Donggwang Clark Corporation.
As of May 2011, Clark’s total number of workers is 60,176.
