6 men stage ambush, kill Batangas police officer

SIX unidentified men staged a surprise attack to kill a police superintendent in Lemery, Batangas on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Superintendent Rodney Ramirez, 42, was on a bicycle heading for the town proper when six men in a Mitsubishi L300 van, with plate number TKY 349, aimed at him and opened fire around 9:45 a.m., Batangas police spokesman Superintendent Arcadio Ronquillo said.
The suspects fled on foot toward Sta. Teresita town, abandoning their dark gray van, Ronquillo said.
Ramirez was hit by multiple gunshot wounds on the head and was rushed to Lemery Doctor’s Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by attending physicians.
The victim was assigned to the Personnel Holding Unit of the provincial police and lived at P. Burgos Street in Anak Dagat village in Lemery.
Recovered on the scene were spent shells for cal. 45 and 9 mm pistols, and the suspects’ vehicles. (VR/Sunnex)
