AFP launches retiree assistance program

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) recently launched the “Gabay at Alalay sa Kawal (Galak) na Retirado”, a transition assistance program that will help all retiring military personnel and dependents to have an easy shift to civilian life.
The AFP said that the Transition Assistance Program (TAP) primarily attempts to institute and deepen partnerships with government organization, non-government organization and private corporations in imparting information and assistance on employment and training to retiring military personnel.
Services under the transition program includes: pre-separation and retirement interview, pre-separation and retirement planning workshop, vocational and technical skills training assistance, job search assistance, and business, livelihood or enterprise development assistance.
All personnel who applied for retirement or separation will be processed and listed by the unit personnel officer/NCO for the TAP program. A Transition Adviser or TAP Office will then consolidate the list of personnel together with the information necessary for the transition process. The Transition Adviser or the TAP Center will communicate with the retiring personnel through mail, e-mail, or phone call to: inform and offer them TAP Services; make an appointment for a Pre-Separation and Retirement Interview; and, send them informational material.
A pre-Separation and retirement interview will be done to determine the particular assistance to be provided. The applicant will then have to attend the Pre-Separation and Retirement Planning Workshop when called upon.
Other transition services may also be availed by the applicant through referrals by the TA or the TAP Center.
They may avail those services three months before their effective date of retirement or separation.
The Transition Adviser also checks the status of implementation of Individual Action Plans and provides necessary assistance if requested, and, monitor schooling and performance of retiree. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
