Arroyo to undergo surgery Friday

MANILA (Updated 12:20 p.m.) — Former President and now Pamapanga Representative Gloria Arroyo is set to undergo a cervical spine surgery Friday.
Dr. Juliet Gopez-Cervantes, Arroyo’s attending physician at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, said Arroyo will undergo operation, which will take four to five hours at 7 a.m.
Gopez-Cervantes said the Arroyo family agreed that the former President will undergo the surgery.
She added they already explained to the family the possible risks of the operation.
Arroyo will stay in the Intensive Care Unit for a week after the operation then she will be transferred to her regular room, Gopez-Cervantes said.
The lawmaker was taken to the hospital late Monday afternoon due to recurrence of neck pain because of damaged cervical spine.
Arroyo underwent physical therapy last month for cervical radiculopathy, a pinched root of nerve due to disc disease. The lawmaker appeared in several events wearing a neck brace after that hospital confinement.(Sunnex)
