Balibago to launch country’s 1st village-owned hygiene clinic

ANGELES CITY — The council of Barangay Balibago here is set to launch on July 11 the country’s first barangay-owned and controlled social hygiene facility.
Rodelio Mamac said the barangay council spent a total of P3.6 million for the project; P1.5 million for the ambulance, P1.5 million for the construction of the clinic, and P800,000 for the medical equipment and supplies.
Mamac said they have invited Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo and Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri to grace the clinic’s inauguration.
The medical facility will specialize in the physical examination of workers in the entertainment district, including bar girls.
Mamac said the project was designed to help in “combating and reversing” the spread of HIV and Aids virus in the city.
“Reproductive health and weekly serologic testing are the core services of the facility to cover all clients not otherwise accommodated by the City Hygiene Clinic,” Mamac said.
With the project, Mamac assured the public quality health care services.
“The social hygiene facility is just a first phase of the Health Reform Program of Barangay Balibago,” he said.
He said they are targeting an initial of 2,000 clients who will pay the barangay for clinic services P70 each.
The proceeds from the operation of the hygiene facility will provide equity for the Balibago Birthing Home and Health Center, equipped with X-ray machines and drug-testing equipment, said Mamac.
Zubiri contributed some P500,000 from his Priority Development Assistance Fund for the project, he added.
