CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Third district Board Member Monina Laus on Thursday called on different sectors here to participate in the August 25 bloodletting drive at the Benigno Aquino Hall for dengue patients of the province.
Laus, who chairs the provincial Committee on Health, said the event aims to draw in support for blood supply for patients of the Jose B. Lingad (JBL) Memorial Regional Hospital.
“The aim of this activity is to have a ready supply of blood for our patients whenever the need arises so that they can be treated properly and efficiently,” Laus said, adding dengue is a serious matter that should be addressed both at the grassroots and the provincial level.
Laus said the bloodletting is in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross and is expected to be participated in by members of the Philippine National Police, Philippine Army, Quota International Pampanga, Rotary Club of Central Pampanga and employees of the Pampanga Provincial Government.
An official of the regional hospital said they are now running at around 590 to 600 dengue patients as of mid-month, but no refusals or non-admittance are being made.
In statistics provided by Laus to Sun.Star Pampanga, 896 cases have been recorded by the department of health regional office as of July 29, 2011.
Of the total, 184 are in the City of San Fernando; 117 in Mabalacat with one death; 106 in Guagua; and 57 in Apalit with one death.
In Angeles City, 285 cases and one death have been noted. Another death was also reported in Candaba recently.
Laus said the bloodletting drive will also serve as an information drive against dengue as participants will be given brochures and a short talk on how to address the spread of dengue.
Laus also reminded the public to intensify their information campaign on dengue, especially how to eliminate the breeding places of mosquitoes.
The provincial lawmaker also urged the public to participate in environmental sanitation activities, such as clean-up drives.
Laus said the public should abide by the DOH’s call for implementing an anti-dengue campaign called “4-S.”
Laus said 4-S represents the four steps to take against dengue: to search and destroy, to seek early treatment, to implement self-protective measures and to say no to fogging.
