City celebrates Arbor Day

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The City Government planted some 150 trees recently in celebration of Philippine Arbor Day.
Mayor Oscar Rodriguez led city officials, the city environment office, Philippine National Police, private sector groups and students in planting Castañas, Fringgon and Yellow Belle at Himlayang Fernandino, at the city’s 2.8 hectares public cemetery, last June 30.
The Arbor Day celebration is a nationwide mandate of the National Government allowing Filipinos to participate in environmental preservation by planting trees and other ornamental plants. It also requires every local government unit to conduct tree planting activities regularly.
This activity aims not only to help reforest denuded areas, but also to make the country a greener and healthier place to live in.
Rodriguez said that environmental protection through planting trees is a major responsibility not just of leaders but also of the entire constituency.
“Seryoso tayo sa mga ganitong hakbangin, responsibilidad natin na pangalagaan ang kapaligiran at hikayatin ang lahat lalo na ang mga kabataan na magtanim (We are serious in this undertaking, it is our responsibility in taking care of our environment and urge the young to plant),” he said.
Environmental protection is one of the priority projects of the city in line with one of its agenda dubbed as “Malinis na Kapalagiran, Pamahalaang Makakalisan.”
