The Waldorf=Astoria, the Italian restaurant down the block, or the banquet room at the local firehouse? Whether trying to plan for a wedding, anniversary, bar mitzvah, birthday party, or even a corporate get-together, picking a venue for your event is an extremely important part of your planning. There are many important considerations you must establish before booking a venue space.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
1. 1
First and foremost, establish your price boundaries. Before entering a venue, you should consider how much you are willing to spend per person or in total. If you have no budget, you can really visit any venue; however, if you have a tight budget, you should only tour spaces that you know you are able to afford. You shouldn’t waste your time or an event planner’s time if you know you have no intent of booking an event at a specific venue.
1. 2
Consider the aesthetics of the location. Are you looking for a visually pleasing venue space or a plain space that you can decorate on your own? Do you have a specific preference if you are planning a bigger event such as a wedding? Some people may want to plan their event by the ocean while others may prefer a country club.
1. 3
Review the menu offerings. Do the food selections look like they will be able to satisfy all of your guests? For example, if you are planning a ninetieth birthday party, you may want to book a venue or restaurant that serves more traditional foods and not new-age and eclectic foods. A sweet sixteen can be used as another example: sixteen year old guests may not want to eat more “refined” food selections and may prefer simple food selections such as chicken fingers or barbeque items.
1. 4
One of the most important aspects of finding the perfect venue space is whether or not you feel comfortable with the event manager at the venue. Does he or she answer your phone calls in a timely manner? Does he or she send you things when they promise to? If you do not feel like you can trust the event manager or that he or she doesn’t seem to care about your event, you should not book a party at that venue. There is nothing more frustrating than being stressed about our party and not getting answers or phone calls back.
