Environment office leads National Greening Program

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here led government agencies, business sector and private sector representatives in Tuesday’s leg of the National Greening Program (NGP).
The DENR was joined by members of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) and other government agencies in planting 1,017 seedlings of Banaba trees along the MacArthur Highway and 430 seedlings of Molave and Mahogany trees at the Regional Government Center in Barangay Maimpis here.
Members who participated in the event were the Romac Group of Companies, Laus Group of Companies, Acsat, Certicon and San Lorenzo Ruiz Center of Schools and Studies.
In November 17, last year PamCham, DPWH, DENR, Neda, and the Department of Trade and Industry and other government agencies also planted trees along the MacArthur highway from DPWH down to Dolores Intersection.
This time, the area planted was from Magnificat school up to Telabastagan section of the MacArthur Highway.
A priority program of the Aquino government, the NGP is a convergence initiative among the DENR, Department of Agriculture and the Department of Agrarian Reform, in coordination with the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Budget and Management and other concerned agencies, private sector and other institutions, according to the DENR.
NGP aims to plant some 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 million hectares of the country’s public domains, such as the forestlands, mangrove, and protected areas, among others, within a six-year period, from 2011 to 2016.
