CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Some 50 companies, civic groups and stakeholders recently manifested their interest to adopt various public schools here through the joint City Government and Department of Education’s “Adopt a School Program.”
Councilor Jimmy Lazatin, chairman of the City Council’s committee on education, said that companies like Aboitiz Group and SM Foundation Inc. had agreed to provide schools with needed facilities like classrooms.
“We have sealed a deal with Aboitiz, and they agreed to build two 2-storey school buildings for Malpitic Elementary School. SM Foundation is also looking at four schools which they will adopt,” said Lazatin.
“It is through our concerted efforts that we invest for the future of our children today. We are all stakeholders in the nation’s development with education as our most vital social concern,” he added.
During the unique “Gallery Walk” at Heroes Hall, 41 elementary and high schools had booths to showcase their respective “achievements” and the “weak areas” where they need support.
Aside from Aboitiz and SM Foundation, other firms, which participated in the stakeholders’ night were Pagcor, San Fernando Cabalen Lions Club, Pacla Hydraulics, Pampanga Coliseum, Patient Care Corp and Bureau of Immigration, among others.
The Adopt-A-School Program was established through Republic Act 8225, pursuant to the Adopt-A-School Act of 1998.
It aims to establish multiple partnerships with the business sectors, foundations, non-government organizations and the Department of Education by providing the needed assistance and service to public schools.
