Foreign Affairs department forms ‘Task Force Syria’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) recently created Task Force Syria, which will handle the voluntary repatriation of Filipinos working or residing in the Middle Eastern country.
In an advisory sent to Sun.Star Pampanga, DFA-Central Luzon acting regional consul Alberto Romua said the voluntary repatriation in Syria is rooted on security and safety of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“In view of the raising of alert level 3 or voluntary repatriation for the entire Syria due to the security situation in the country and upon the instruction of President Benigno Aquino III for the full and effective implementation of the alert level, the DFA has implemented additional measures to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipinos there,” the advisory stated.
The Overseas Preparedness and Response Team, headed by Executive Secretary Pacquito Ochoa Jr., will also deploy a 10-member rapid response team for Syria as augmentation personnel to the Philippine Embassy in its efforts to repatriate Filipinos.
