Guv leads hospital ground breaking
January 11, 2011
MAGALANG – Governor Lilia Pineda on Monday led the ground-breaking ceremony for the Balitucan District Hospital here.
Formerly known as the Andres Luciano Memorial Hospital, the 47-year-old medical center incurred the ire of residents and patients during the past administration, branding it “forlorn and forsaken” because of its dilapidated condition and worn-out equipment.
After the ground breaking, Pineda, through Provincial Information Officer Joel Mapiles, announced that the 50-bed modern hospital will rise within eight months, with a target launch in August this year.
Mapiles said that the governor has allotted some P30 million for the main hospital building and a complete array of facilities like new X-ray machines, dialysis equipment and an operating room as well as diagnostic laboratories.
He said an additional P12 million has been approved by Pineda for the administration building and additional emergency equipment.
“Governor Pineda will also visit — upon the invitation of George Samson of the World Medical Relief, Inc. — Detroit, Michigan, this year to take a look at the equipment his group will donate to the hospital,” said Mapiles.
He added that the district hospital is dream come true for Vice Governor Joseller Guiao, who moved for its immediate rehabilitation during the past administration, which never realized because of some “misunderstandings” with then-governor Ed Panlilio. (Jovi T. De Leon)
