CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda urged stakeholders in the anti-tuberculosis (TB) campaign to focus on educating the people on the health hazard the disease poses on patients.
However, she still praised the stronger partnership between the public and private sectors in battling with the disease.
“Pampanga is at the center of the region, with access to hospitals and essential services, so TB should become a thing of the past in the province,” Pineda said.
She said while some TB cases get cured, she observed that new ones arise.
“Marami sa mga pasyente ang matitigas ang ulo at hindi sumusunod sa utos ng mga health workers. Ito ang dapat pagtuunan ng pansin upang di mawalan ng saysay ang ginagastos ng gobyerno sa paggamot sa kanila,” Pineda said.
However, she expressed hopes that with the signing of a manifesto and a pledge of commitment between the public and private mix DOTS initiative, the campaign against tuberculosis in the province shall produce better results.
“Sana sa susunod na pagkikita natin, ang sinasabing 3,000 kaso ng TB sa lalawigan ay mabawasan ng 500 man lang,” she said.
She also enjoined health workers in the province to incorporate educating the people on proper waste disposal, which she said is a chief cause of health problems.
The governor linked the problem on TB and other diseases to the province’s solid waste problem, which is at the top of the Capitol’s priority list of things to be solved.
She told the municipal health workers, “Sak
it ang inyong ginagamot, ang isang sanhi nito ay ang basura at maruming kapaligiran, kaya isabay ninyo ang pag-e-educate sa mga tao tungkol sa dalawang isyung ito at maraming problema ang masosolusyunan.”
The signatories to the manifesto gave their commitment to strengthening the efforts to minimize the incidence of TB in the province.
Among the signatories were Board Members Monina Laus who chairs the Provincial Board committee on health, Trina Dizon, Fritzie David-Dizon, Ric Yabut, Nestor Tolentino, Cris Garbo, Tars Halili, Raul Macalino, and other officials of the Provincial Government, the Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. Antonio Aquino, the Department of Health in Central Luzon, local medical societies and other stakeholders.
Certificates of recognition were also presented to TB-DOTS accredited facilities which included the rural health units of Floridablanca, Angeles City and the Angeles and Pampanga Medical Societies.
