Iloilo-based team trains in Clark for SAGE world cup 2012 in USA
CLARK FREEPORT – A three-man team based in Ilolio province recently trained at a business process outsourcing (BPO) firm here in preparation for Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) World Cup set in San Francisco, California in July.
Jessa Marie Tacadao, Yzabel Layson and Celina Lava Maloto of the St. Roberts International School in Bingawan town, Iloilo were trained for four days last week by the Cyber City Teleservices, Phil., Inc., the pioneer BPO company at Clark. They will compete in the annual cup in the USA set from July 27 to 31.
Cyber City Senior Executive Vice President George Sorio and their guests from other firms based in Clark acted as judges and critics in the training for the actual question and answer portion of the annual SAGE contest.
Those who joined Sorio were Carmen McTavish of Angeles International Travel Center, Danal Sorio of Clark College of Science and Technology, Robert Grow of Dongwang Clark Corporation, Ronald Punzalan of Cyberton Phil. Inc. and Jo Mallonga of Cyber City.
The all-girl team will present their vermiculture project to the SAGE competition. They said vermiculture involves the process of raising earthworms and harvesting the organic material called vermicast.
“Vermicast is being used in organic fertilizer to lessen if not eliminate the use of chemical fertilizer,” said Layson.
For his part, Sorio said they supported the Iloilo-based SAGE contenders “not just to enhance the team’s skills but as a commitment to make more Filipinos become business-minded.
“SAGE creates an ambience that makes people more incline to do business and become entrepreneurs than employees,” said Sorio.
He added that the Philippines has been left behind among the nations in Asia whose citizens are taking advantage of business opportunities.
“In Israel, taxi drivers offer business or sell something to their passengers. In Korea and Japan, many of their residents put up businesses than work as employees,” said Sorio.
Sorio said they had started the campaign to promote business sense and skills at the secondary school level beginning at the international school in Iloilo.
Sorio disclosed that Dr. Robert Galindez of St. Robert’s named the high school department after him, the Dr. George D. Sorio Special Business High School.
Sorio said they had asked the patent for the business high school. He added that he and Galindez will offer franchise to schools in other parts of the country.
