Lawmaker eyes ‘Gulayan sa Barangay’

CITY OF SANFERNANDO — Butil partylist Representative Agapito Guanlao is eyeing the implementation of the Gulayan sa Barangay as source of food and vegetable supplies for poor communities here.
The program was formally launched at the Paskuhan Village here. The project will be implemented with the help of the Department of Agriculture and local municipal agriculture officials.
Guanlao said the program includes a system of support for setting up vegetable propagation centers in key villages of the province.
The program provides a start-up capital, tools, skills enhancement and other trainings for the implementation of the program and marketing of product produce.
Guanlao said that farmers and their families can participate in the program to fully maximize its benefits in the community.
The Gulayan centers can then serve as the basic resource chain in the supply of vegetables to key areas of the province.
“Our farmers will be asked to attened gardening training facilitated by agriculturist and sustainable agriculture advocates and partners,” Guanlao said.
Part of the launching program was the conduct of vegetable planting ceremony participated by member farmers here.
