Lawmaker sets investment, tourism master plan for Arayat

ARAYAT — Third District Representative Aurelio Gonzales initiated Monday the creation of an investment and tourism master plan for Arayat town to fully maximize its economic potential.
This came as the 703rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, through its commander Colonel Gregorio Catapang, recently declared Pampanga, including Arayat, as insurgency-free.
Gonzales said the master plan is essential in drawing in a well-rounded development agenda and objectives for the town’s development that are in line with the development initiatives of the province and those of the National Government.
“The master plan will be a launching pad for other development projects for different sectors and can also be the launch pad for the partnerships with the private sector which can help secure funds for the development of the area through government tie-ups,” Gonzales said, stressing that Arayat is a perfect location for the province’s border tourism hub.
Arayat, according to Gonzales, is in a perfect area for investment, as it is strategically located as a gateway to Nueva Ecija and is a few kilometers away from major investment centers like Angeles City, City of San Fernando an Clark Freeport.
Amador Pineda, executive secretary of Mayor Luis Espino, said the recent development in the town’s peace and order is vital in getting the trust and confidence of businessmen and investors.
Urban Planning
Gonzales said that his team is eyeing Architect Felino Palafox Jr. to design the general urban plan for Arayat town.
The lawmaker said that Arayat town and its barangays are ready, as he had already facilitated the construction of the public market, farm-to-market roads and covered courts that can help facilitate the development of the town.
Gonzales also said that the tourism master plan must also include a ten-year development plan for Mt. Arayat through a local government and private sector partnership prog
ram that would facilitate the management of Mt. Arayat as a tourist destination.
It can be recalled that in 2009, officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources that oversees the upkeep of the national park and other government agencies have met and discussed plans for the rehabilitation of Mt. Arayat National Park.
Gonzales, however, admits that a stringent study is being conducted by his staff to settle the issue of management of the area and open it to investment and tourism opportunities.
“As soon as we can get the legal aspects settled we could expect to see eco-tourism investors coming in,” Gonzales said, adding that he envisions to see Mt. Arayat to transform into the best eco-tourism destination in Pampanga complete with attractions like zip line, eco-trail and mountain water swimming facilities.
Gonzales said that investment and tourism opportunities here would translate to more job opportunities for locals. The lawmaker said that the tourism and investment plan will be presented to stakeholders in the coming weeks.
