Licensing office cracks down on erring businesses
July 12, 2011
THE La Trinidad Municipal Licensing Office is conducting its tax campaign, including inspections of business establishments within the municipality.
The campaign started first week of June and is expected to finish in August.
This is in accordance with the Administrative Order 018, Series of 2011, creating a task force to enforce Chapter XIV of the Code of Ordinances of the municipality; the closure of business establishments issued by the Office of the Mayor; of the La Trinidad children’s welfare code and section 15 of Ordinance 2-2008; amending for this purpose Administrative Order 9A series of 2008; as well as provisions of the building code, sanitation code, fire code; and the La Trinidad revised revenue code.
There were already 751 business establishments from four barangays found operating without business license. This number is expected to increase after all barangays of the municipality will be inspected.
Licensing Officer II Myrna Bagano said as per revenue code, those business establishments without licenses are given three days to apply for permits. A business establishment will be shut down upon failure to apply for the permit after due notice.
She said registered business owners should internalize their responsibility to renew their license and those unregistered should apply for license. “They should not be accustomed waiting for inspection period,” she reminded.
On the other hand, other small business owners resisted applying for business permits, claiming their gain is not enough to pay their business tax.
Bagano clarified that even small business along roadsides must have permits for equality purposes. With regard to some clamors regarding high taxes, she said concerned business can pursue agreements with the municipal treasury office.
Inspection teams conduct tax campaign at daytime and nighttime.
“The tax campaign is to create income for the municipality,” Bagano said.
The participation and cooperation of business owners contributes much for the betterment and progress of the municipality, she said.
