Local governments urged to join Galing Pook Awards

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is encouraging local government units (LGUs) in Central Luzon with commendable practices to submit entries for the Galing Pook Awards 2011.
DILG Regional information officer Miriam Gaviola said the search accepts nominations of LGU-initiated programs either at the provincial, city, municipal or barangay level that have been in operation for at least one year and have verifiable and significant results.
Gaviola said those who are interested and qualified are advised to submit eight copies of a fully accomplished application form; eight copies (in short bond paper) of the following attachments: latest program budget, LGU and program organizational structure, and five photos exhibiting the program’s activities and impact; and a soft copy of the application form and attachments to the Monitoring and Evaluation Division of DILG-Central Luzon on or before July 29.
Gaviola said a total of 10 awardees will be chosen this year from a pool of nominees coming from the different regions of the country through a multi-level rigorous screening process based on positive results and impact, promotion of people’s participation and empowerment, innovation, transferability and sustainability, and efficiency of program service delivery.
Conceived in 1993, the Galing Pook Awards seeks to honor laudable programs of LGUs and use them as models of good governance in other communities.
Among the LGUs in Central Luzon that had been bestowed with the recognition include the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan and Pampanga; the cities of San Fernando, Olongapo and Muñoz; the towns of Anao in Tarlac and Guagua in Pampanga; and Barangay Tangos of Baliwag, Bulacan.
