Mall security guard returns bag of cash, refuses reward

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — A security guard from SM City Pampanga turned over Monday a clutch bag containing over P50,000 in cash and important documents found in a pushcart.
Security guard Ferdinand J. Mejia of Prestige Security Agency found a black clutch bag containing important documents, as well as $651 and P30,200 in cash inside a supermarket pushcart over the weekend.
Mejia reported and turned over the said clutch bag to officials of SM City Pampanga’s Customer Relations Security (CRS) Office for proper disposition.
The CRS office, after thorough scrutiny of the items, discovered that the bag belongs to Fernando David, assistant regional director of the National Bureau of Investigation and current president of the Lions Club International.
David showed up at the CRS Office on Monday to report a missing clutch bag. It was verified that the bag turned over by Mejia was the one David was looking for.
The recovered bag, with all items intact, was then turned over to David at the SM City Pampanga Customer Relations Security Office. The turnover was witnessed by assistant mall manager John Lo, who represented the operations department.
Also witnessing the turnover were CRS supervisors and officers.
David offered to reward Mejia P3,000 in cash but the latter refused.
Instead, David promised to write a letter of commendation to SM City Pampanga and the Prestige Security Agency as appreciation of Mejia’s chivalry.
