Misamis Oriental monitors weather condition in towns

MISAMIS Oriental province monitors the weather condition in all its towns as part of its mitigating effort against calamities.
Governor Oscar Moreno, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) chair, said the province is taking into consideration the changing weather condition in the country in the past months.
PDRRMC is tasked among others “to identify, assess, and manage the hazard vulnerabilities and risks that may occur,” as well as “to formulate and implement a comprehensive and integrated disaster risk reduction and management program” in the locality.
“As part of our risk reduction management, we are constantly communicating to all the towns’ officials to come up with better precautionary measures when catastrophe strikes in the province,” he said.
Moreno assured that the PDRRMC has already come up with disaster preparedness standards and has formulated disaster management plans and direct disaster management operations in preparation for the forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), especially in towns that are prone to landslides and floods.
The governor has also issued an executive order creating a core group tasked to integrate disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation (DRR-CCA) in the formulation of annual provincial development plan and the provincial annual investment program pursuant to the provisions of the Republic Act 10121, or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
On Monday, at least seven persons were killed while around 20 were missing when a landslide occurred in Valencia City, Bukidnon. Flashfloods also hit several communities in Davao areas due to heavy rains.
According to Pagasa, the country will experience rains this month due to several low pressures that will enter the country.
