Missing ‘Egay’ victim found inside Subic

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The Olongapo City Rescue Team has recovered the remains of a 15-year-old lad who was swept by strong water current in Barangay New Cabalan Monday morning.
Jeffrey Lapid, chief of Operations of the Olongapo City Disaster Management Office, said the victim identified as Ariel Delos Santos, who was reported missing since Monday, was attempting to cross the river in Barangay New Cabalan during the height of Tropical Depression Egay.
“He was attempting to cross the river but the strong current swept him and he drowned,” Lapid said.
Part of Olongapo City was flooded, which started early morning Monday until Wednesday afternoon.
The City Rescue team, according to Lapid, is still on standby due to tropical depression Falcon.
He said they have been looking for Delos Santos since Monday afternoon after he was reported missing by his family.
“We tried searching the whole stretch of Sta. Rita, Mabayuan and Kalaklan River but we had no luck. Then he surfaced under the bridge of the Sta. Rita Highway inside Subic Bay Freeport zone,” Lapid said.
Delos Santos is the only casualty in the city, but landslides were also reported in different parts of the city, forcing a number of families to evacuate at the Mabayuan Elementary school here. (Anthony Bayarong)
