New hotel violates building code

THE City Engineer’s Office (CEO) sent five notices of illegal construction to new Bali Hotel owner Rommel Ynion for violation of building code.
Construction and renovation of the multi-million-peso hotel started early 2010 after Ynion reportedly bought the property, formerly known as The Royal Palms Hotel, from the family of the late businessman William Bayani.
A check with the office of the building of the CEO showed that the finished building has No Occupancy Permit even if it is already slated for a grand opening next week.
It also appears that for not having a building permit, the building contractor also failed to secure a permit from the Bureau of Fire Prevention and has no wastewater treatment, a prerequisite for hotels and restaurants operating in the city.
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said the city is not singling out Bali Hotel for its numerous violations and assured he will look into the case.
He said he welcomes all kinds of business investment but investors must comply with the requirements of local and national governments.
