CLARK FREEPORT ZONE — The number of employees inside Clark continues to increase as 7,867 new workers were hired from May 2010 to May 2011, the Customer Service Department of Clark Development Corporation (CSD-CDC) reported.
CSD-CDC reports indicate that the increase was complemented by the expansions of several huge multi-national firms inside the Freeport this year, including the opening of the multi-billion-dollar investment of Phoenix Semi Conductor of the Philippines; the expansion programs of several Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms; and Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc. this year.
With the increase in the number of workers in Clark from 57,469 in May 2010 to 60,176 in May 2011, the Freeport zone has become one of the most active zones in Central Luzon in the past few years.
In its reports to CDC President Felipe Antonio B. Remollo, the expected surge of workers in Clark this year could be attributed to the additional 3,000 workers to be hired by PSCP, not to mention the more than 2,500 employees needed by the BPOs, Yokohama, and Donggwang, among others.
Yokohama recently held groundbreaking rites of its Y50 billion expansion program, which also entails more than 1,500 workers once fully operational in 2013, while Donggwang Clark Corporation infused $200 million to develop the 304-hectare area into a tourism, recreational and leisure estate, including the construction of a new golf course at the former True North inside this Freeport zone.
In a report, CSD said the number of workers was gathered from the 453 registered firms at the state-owned firm.
Most of the workers as per the reports submitted by the operating firms in Clark come from the industrial-electronics with 12,342 workers or 20.45 percent of the total number of workers, followed by info-tech and commercial firms with 11,485 workers or 19.04 percent.
Industrial-Garment firms have at least 9,076 workers or 15.05 percent; 6,325 workers or 10.49 percent from the industrial and other manufacturing industries; and 5,415 or 8.98 percent on commercial projects.
Angelo C. Lopez Jr., CDC’s Public Relations Department manager, said the improvement on the employment in Clark is an indication that the Freeport Zone is becoming an investment haven for multi-national firms, such as Texas Instruments, Yokohama, Nanox Philippines, Fontana Leisure Resort, and other firms with multi-million-dollar investments.
