OFW action center to celebrate first year

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Provincial Action Center for OFW (overseas Filipino workders) Concerns (Pacoc) will celebrate its first year on September 17, highlighting the achievements of the first action center for overseas Filipinos here.
Pacoc head Maria Eliza Rey Yap-Munoz said the action center was able to facilitate the repatriation of five remains of OFWs in various parts of the world since the opening of the center, aside from the hundreds of job referrals and job facilitations conducted for overseas job seekers.

Yap-Munoz said Pacoc also facilitated passport, medical, legal, loan and financial assistance for at least 200 OFWs.
The Pacoc, through Governor Lilia Pineda, also helped 262 OFWs who were displaced because of the civil unrest in Libya early in March.
The action center also facilitated regular job fairs and information drives among oversees and returning OFWs.
During their April job fair, the Pacoc registered 127 OFWs, while 77 OFWs were interviewed and evaluated by the International Skills Development Inc. for overseas employment.
Four OFWs were also interviewed and evaluated by the Digitel Company for local employment.
Pacoc said it is continuing its job of facilitating the referral for overseas employment of job seekers and repatriation of those wanting to return to the country.
Pacoc is directly coordinating with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, the Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Foreign Affairs and other line agencies.
The action center is also exploring other programs for OFW dependents here. Recently, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said it is offering livelihood seminars and technical support to families of OFWs.
Under the program, DTI-Pampanga Regulatory Division chief Erlinda Pineda said families of migrant workers could now look forward to a secured future by investing wisely the hard-earned money of their loved ones abroad.
