P234-M rice damaged in CL due to Habagat

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The damage in agriculture which was caused by monsoon rains and tropical storm “Maring” (international name Trami) had reached P234,806,343.24 in the region’s six provinces, excluding Aurora.
Of the total amount, P67,715,833.75 worth of the damages was in Bataan; P27,786,628.07, Bulacan; P3,101,090, Nueva Ecija; P74,406,347, Pampanga; P43,723,611.68, Tarlac; and, P18,072,832.74, Zambales. The amounts are only for the destroyed rice crops.
According to Department of Agriculture Region 3 (DA-3) Regional Director Andrew Villacorta, the amount covered was from August 18-22.
This estimated loss as of August 23 is equivalent to 3,015 bags of seedlings, added Villacorta.
“We are still expecting that this will rise in the coming days,” the regional director added.
Meanwhile, the damage on corn is P4,358,050.50 in Bataan, Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales; P2,208,140 on cassava in Aurora, Pampanga and Zambales; P23,320,098 on high-valued commercial crops-vegetable in six provinces of Central Luzon except Aurora; and P1,725,390 on livestock in Aurora, Bulacan, and Zambales provinces.
The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s latest data show that there are 339,750 families or 1,541,945 persons affected by the typhoon and Habagat.
Death Toll Rises
Meanwhile, another 12-year-old boy reportedly died while a fisherman has been reported missing in the wake of the habagat induced by typhoon Maring last week.
Reports reaching Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) chief Angie Blanco identified the victim as Ed Paulo Maco dela Cruz, 12, of Barangay Apalit; while missing is Michael Silverio of Barangay San Pedro; both from Floridablanca town.
Blanco said Dela Cruz drowned last Thursday. Silverio, on the other hand, left his house to go fishing and failed to return home as of press time.
