Philippines Clark Ann E. Smith’s Simple ways to relax and unwind after work

april 12 2011

Your work day has been highly productive but grueling. And the commute home was equally challenging. You get home late and are really tired. But you are having trouble unwinding.
Your situation is not uncommon. Your mind may not want to slow down after going strong all day. But for your mental and physical health, you need to learn to bring it down a notch or two.
Below are a few simple ways to relax and unwind after work.
* Change into something more comfortable
When you are in your work attire, you feel a certain way. And when you take these clothes off and put on some warm-ups and a tee-shirt, you immediately feel a sense of comfort and relaxation.
Make it a point to change from your work clothes as soon as you can upon getting home. This ritual will signal your brain that it’s time to slow down.
* Put on soothing music
If you are feeling stressed, play some music. Lie down on your sofa for a few minutes. Clothes your eyes and breathe deeply. Focus on the sounds of classical or acoustic music. It will take you to another world and calm your mind.
* Focus on preparing dinner
For those who enjoy cooking, there is a sense of escape when preparing dinner. When you chop fresh vegetables or assemble a casserole, your mind is taken off the work day. And that can be a good thing!
* Do some yoga
If you have not tried a yoga class, you are missing out. Yoga uses many techniques to help you become more centered and relax.
You can easily do some yoga poses from the comfort of your own home. You can use a DVD that contains a yoga session. You will get many benefits from this form of exercise and meditation.
* Call a good friend
Laughter can be one of the best ways to relieve stress. So after a long day, find time to call a good friend. Your spirits will be lifted, and some of the headaches from the day will be eased.
* Take a hot bath
You do not need an hour to get the benefits from a hot bath. If you are pushed for time, you can still enjoy a short bath.
Simply fill your tub with hot water. Add some pure Eucalyptus oil and Epsom salts. And soak yourself for as long as you can. Even a few minutes in a hot tub will sooth your mind and help you relax.
* Read a good book
Finally, reading is a great way to relax and unwind. Reconnect with some of the classics or enjoy a Michael Connelly detective novel. Lose yourself in your book, and your stress levels will likely lessen.
