Police to heighten alert at Quirino Grandstand Saturday

MANILA — The Manila Police District (MPD) will deploy 1,000 police personnel to the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Saturday for the scheduled face-off of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez.
MPD Director Roberto Rongavilla said in a radio report that they will heighten the security alert at the Quirino Grandstand starting 6 a.m. Saturday.
Among those to be deployed are members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) and Civil Disturbance Management units, he added.
The face-off between Pacquiao and Marquez on Saturday is part of their promotional tour for their scheduled bout in November 12. It is set to start around 2 p.m.
Marquez arrived in Manila last Thursday, September 1, around 5 a.m. He will be in the country until Monday.
Rongavilla advised those who plan to witness the event at the Quirino Grandstand not to bring valuable items and be vigilant against snatchers and thieves.
Aside from Manila, the Pacquiao-Marquez press tour will also go to New York City, Los Angeles and Mexico City in the next few days.
