San Francisco, CA – Master Sommelier David Glancy launched the San Francisco Wine School (SFWS) in May 2011 to meet the growing need in the Bay Area for higher wine education. The school is the only authorized provider of the French Wine Scholar (FWS) study and certification programs in the Bay Area. The FWS online study modules, review quizzes, webinars (live & archived) combined with the credentialed instructors and wine selections of SFWS has been a hit with their students. Ed Levine, Propriètaire of three Left Bank Brasseries and LB Steak stated, “This course gave me much greater insight and I was so enthused with the instructors and their presentations that a half a dozen of my employees have now attended.”
As of this month, the Society of Wine Educators (SWE) has also approved San Francisco Wine School as a private wine school authorized to provide the SWE courses. The Washington, DC based SWE has three credential exams: Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW), Certified Wine Educator (CWE) and Certified Specialist of Spirits (CSS). David Glancy of SFWS holds both the CWE and CSS credentials and fellow instructor, Maureen Downey holds the CWE. The SWE exams are held all over the world, but SFWS is now the only school in the San Francisco Bay Area to offer them. The first CSW exam is scheduled at SFWS for August 13 and enrollment is available on-line.
Classes and exams are currently being offered at the Oyster Point Embassy Suites in South San Francisco where there is ample parking and walkable access to Caltrain. SFWS is seeking a future home of 10,000 square feet between San Francisco proper and SFO Airport accessible by public transport as it adds new programs and services.

One of 112 professionals in North America and 180 worldwide who have earned the title of Master Sommelier, Glancy has held the MS degree since 2004. Over the last 5 years he guided roughly 400 students through success on the Certified Sommelier (CS) credential. He will be a featured lecturer at the Society of Wine Educators 35thAnnual Conference in Providence, RI in August 2011.
