Residents support P2 garbage fee plan

CANDABA — Several residents in this town said they are willing to embrace the proposal made by the Provincial Government involving the collection of a P2 garbage fee per household in the province to cover expenses on garbage disposal.
Governor Lilia Pineda earlier proposed the collection of a P2 garbage fee per household in Pampanga to finally solve the growing waste problem.
Pineda explained that Pampanga has more than 293,800 households and a P2 collection per household is enough to cover the yearly budgetary requirement on garbage disposal.
According to Lucia Cuevas, 46, resident of Barangay Pasig, garbage disposal is a shared responsibility between the people and the government. She said the problem is affecting every member of the community including children.
“Maliit ang dalawang pisong ibibigay ng bawat pamilya para sa pagkolekta ng basura kumpara sa laking ginhawang idudulot nito sa ating kapaligiran,” Cuevas explained.
Another resident also claimed that they are giving more than P10 to children who volunteer to throw garbage in the public market, which are later on being collected by the municipal government.
“Kung minsan nga higit pa dun ang iniuupa namin sa magtatapon ng basura malapit dyan sa palengke. Kaya kung matutuloy ang panukalang ito edi lalung manganda para sa amin,” Conchita Dela Pena, also a resident here, added. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
