Toy gun’ robber nabbed

ANGELES CITY — Police apprehended a 21-year-old man who allegedly held up a woman using a toy gun Monday night.

Jeffrey Gauani Soriano of Buno Resettlement, Matatalaib in Tarlac City, is considered “notorious” because of his involvement in several robbery incidents here and in nearby Mabalacat town, said Police Station 4 Commander Luisito Tan.

Soriano was charged with robbery with intimidation before the Office of City Prosecutor. The city police also took custody of the suspect’s motorcycle.

Tan said Soriano grabbed the handbag of Kristine Marie Liwag De Guzman at gun point in front of a BDO automated teller machine along the McArthur Highway in Barangay Balibago.

But a group of police officers, headed by Sr. Insp. Robledo Zinampan, chanced upon the situation and pursued the suspect, who was eventually cornered along the road.

The victim positively identified Soriano, said Tan.

Police seized from the suspect De Guzman’s belongings, including a black bag containing a Nokia E5 cellular phone, P2,700, 80 Thai Baht, 2,000 in Cambodian currency, BDO ATM card, and a non-professional driver’s license.

Soriano also yielded the toy gun, a knife, a lady’s purse, a green shoulder bag containing sunglasses for women, two jackets, and others.

Tan said the suspect might have something to do with a snatching incident on Monday in Mabalacat town, where a lady was victimized.
