Witness: Mike Arroyo owns Jose Pidal accounts

MANILA (Updated 11:01 a.m.) — A new witness presented by Senator Panfilo Lacson on Monday said Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo is the real owner of the Jose Pidal bank accounts and not his brother, Representative Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo.
During the resumption of the Senate blue ribbon committee on the chopper scam, Lacson presented retired police Chief Superintendent Restituto Mosqueda who testified against the Arroyos.
Mosqueda implicated former Interior and Local Government secretary Ronaldo Puno in the Jose Pidal controversy and said the latter was very close to the Arroyos.
Lacson earlier issued a statement that he has proof that Iggy is not Jose Pidal and that he is ready to reveal the real owner of the Jose Pidal accounts.
The bank accounts were opened to allegedly launder money.
Mosqueda said Puno ordered him in 2003 to make it appear that Iggy owned the Jose Pidal accounts, not Mike.
“Sabi ni Puno, sana wag na tayo magsinungaling, tulungan natin si FG (Mike). Ipalabas natin signature ito ni Iggy,” he said.
He also said Iggy came to the Philippine National Police Crime Lab to practice signature.
“Iggy Arroyo went to PNP Crime Lab in Camp Crame and, under my supervision, copied and signed as Jose Pidal,” said Mosqueda who was then commander of the Crime Lab.
“Iggy Arroyo copied signatures of Jose Pidal, passed off as samples used to verify earlier Pidal signatures,” he added.
Mosqueda said in exchange for his cooperation, he was rewarded with the post of PNP regional director for Bicol Region.
Iggy also offered him all-expense-paid trip to Hong Kong for facilitating his claim as Jose Pidal.
For his part, Puno denies Mosqueda’s allegations.
He said Mosqueda’s statement was a total lie and that he was not in command, and was a civilian during period in question.
“For the record, that is a total lie. I was not even secretary in 2003. I was secretary in 2006. I was congressman in 2004,” he said.
Puno also said he only met the Arroyos the time he was a congressman.
Iggy earlier described as shameless and a monumental waste of time and resources the plan of Lacson to resurrect the Jose Pidal controversy. (Sunnex)
