Development foundation, sweepstakes office ink funding pact
December 07 ,2010
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) signed a memorandum of agreement at the Heroes Hall here on Friday for a funding endowment of P2 million for health and social services programs.
The agreement was signed by KDF president Benigno Ricafort, PCSO chairman Margarita Juico and KDF co-chairman Rizalino Navarro, and the signing was witnessed by KDF trustees, Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and other KDF partner organizations.
Juico said that the PCSO has committed to granting a P2 million endowment fund in four batches of P500,000 each in favor of the KDF for health and medical programs at the Jesus A. Datu Medical Center (JADMC) in Bacolor town.
With the agreement, the two organizations will launch the Healthy Pampanga Movement, the banner program under the memorandum, which will cater to patients in northern and central Luzon.
The Healthy Pampanga Movement is a new initiative for the KDF, an organization of Kapampangans formed in 1987. Most of the organization’s members are entrepreneurs and businessmen who have settled outside the province.
Among KDF’s outstanding programs are the Walking Free Pampanga project for the physically disabled, the Well Family Maternity Clinics for mothers and babies, and the free surgery for patients with cataract, harelip and cleft palate. The KDF is also noted for its technical education program and livelihood for overseas Filipino workers.
“Much of KDF’s work interests us at the PCSO because social service is an emblem of the PCSO. We administer the national lottery, STL and other lotteries to raise funds for the social programs of the national government and for special undertakings of the PCSO,” Juico said, stressing the agreement is the start of a fruitful partnership between KDF and PCSO for the benefit of local indigents needing medical and social services.
Juico said that the PCSO is familiar with the KDF mission and is confident of the enormous accomplishments it had undertaken through the years.
“I am very glad to sign this MOA because it broadens our horizon, it expands our opportunities for humanitarian work, a cause that binds KDF and PCSO together,” Juico said.
Ricafort, for his part, hailed the agreement signing as an unprecedented development in terms of KDF’s ongoing programs. He said that the funding endowment will cover additional beneficiaries.
“What we do in KDF is something that we are proud of. We are able to bring different sector organizations together under one common goal. The tasks we have accomplished are nothing short of outstanding and we plan to accomplish more,” Ricafort said.
KDF partners have expanded to close to three hundred organizations and individuals. Partner organizations include various Rotary Clubs in Pampanga, Quota International Pampanga, Mother Theresa of Calcutta Medical Center, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, Clark Development Corporation, Physicians for Peace, HAU-Apollo, Operation Smile, Ospital Ning Angeles, Social Action Center of Pampanga and ShelterBox Philippines, among others.
Ricafort said that the KDF will work to achieve tangible results under the PCSO and KDF partnership. He said that the event would surely be a litmus test for future KDF partnerships with the national government. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
