Clark airport ‘taxi flights’ to boost N. Luzon tourism
LAGAWE, Ifugao – The provincial police director here called on the Clark International Airport (CIA) in Pampanga to pursue its plan to launch “taxi flights,” allowing tourists to have faster access to premiere destinations in North Luzon.
Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, Ifugao police director, said foreign tourists who landed at the CIA or the airports in Metro Manila had complained of the long hours of land travel to reach the rice terraces in this province, three of which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Casimiro handled tourism safety and community relations in Mindanao for five years and is now helping improve the facilities, including the comfort rooms, in the areas near the Banaue Rice Terraces.
“The tourists say it’s too long and we don’t have time when they learned that they need at least nine hours of one-way land travel to reach Ifugao or Sagada,” said Casimiro. He was referring to nearby Sagada town in Mountain Province, which is also a major tourist spot at the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
Casimiro said they are looking at the Bagabag Airport in Nueva Vizcaya province as the “most ideal area” for the tourists to use after landing the CIA. It takes about an hour of land travel to reach Ifugao from Bagabag town.
Victor Jose Luciano, president and CEO of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC), earlier said he was into talks with airline companies that will offer “taxi flights” and they will serve passengers coming from Luzon.
He cited the airports in Cuayan, Isabela and Bagabag.
“They are like taxi cabs that will pick up passengers in North Luzon. Then passengers will take on the flights at Clark,” said Luciano. He said that light planes carrying at least 10 passengers can be used for the airline service.
Luciano and other CIAC officials are now preparing the airport and its terminal for the Emirates’ daily Dubai-Clark beginning October.
Dubai, one of the members of the United Arab Emirates, is in the Middle East and is used as the major entry point of residents of Europe.

PNoy signs law for new RTC branches in AC
ANGELES CITY–President Benigno Aquino III has signed Republic Act 10582 or an Act that creates six additional branches of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Angeles City.
“We thank President Aquino and Congress for such. This would bring our total number of branches here to 12,” said RTC Executive Judge Omar Viola.
It was only last January 29 that Pampanga 1st district representative Carmelo Lazatin filed the bill requesting for the creation of the courts.
On the same day it was referred to the Committee on Rules, a Committee Report was made, then calendared for reading.
“I am very optimistic that the Office of the Court Administrator will prioritize the creation of the Angeles courts. The present courts try the cases of the 1,800 detainees at the Angeles City District Jail. These cases emanate from the towns of Magalang, Porac and Mabalacat and Angeles City. The creation of these courts will facilitate the disposition of these cases,” Viola added. ● (PIA 3)

Road mishap kills 2 in San Fernando
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Two persons died when the tricycle they were riding was bumped from behind by a truck in Barangay Telabastagan here Monday night.
The fatalities were identified as Querobin Soriano, driver of the tricycle, of Barangay Mawaque, Mabalacat City and Nicko Quiambao, a resident of Marcon Phase 2 also of Mabalacat City.
According to a police sketchy report, Soriano was driving his tricycle and cruising along Macarthur Highway around 9:50 p.m. when a speeding Isuzu close van driven by Armando Canlas of Barangay Sindalan bumped the former’s tricycle from behind.
The report said Soriano and Quiambao sustained serious injuries. Soriano died on the spot while Quiambao died while undergoing treatment at the Sacred Heart Hospital.
Police said Canlas will be charged with Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Double Homicide and Damage to Property.●Froilan E. Magtoto

SM Clark puts up ‘Kalayaan’ timeline
CLARK FREEPORT–A shopping mall here put up a timeline marble that highlighted the resilience and tenacity of Filipinos in line with the celebration of the 115th Philippine Independence Day celebration.
The timeline was created by Marco and Del Guillen.
The marble timeline was a centerpiece which houses an free-flowing fountain which represents how eternally the characters as Filipinos have been tested from one generation to the next.
However, Guillen said that “from the time of our great ancestors and liberators, and until these modern times, we are bamboos swaying strong against the often unmerciful forces, which is a proof of our humility.”
Guillen added that the timeline also symbolizes the “heroic drive of Filipinos to break free from those who held, and will hold, us and our Motherland captive.”
The marble timeline was unveiled to the public by the Guillens, SMCC Mall Manager Ana Datu, SMCC Assistant Mall Manager Mark Carlo Herrera and Mabalacat City Marino “Boking” Morales.
Also present were Ryan Boyce of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition, SMCC Assistant Branch Manager of the SM Store Anthony Ochoa and Regional Marketing Manager Jefferson Suarez, among others.

San Fernando cops collar drug pushers
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Two drug peddlers were put behind bars after they sold illegal drug to a police operative recently in this city.
City police chief, Supt. Ricardo David identified the suspects as Angie Fernando, 41, and Allan Sanico, 38; both residents of Barangay Bulaon, this city.
David said Fernando and Sanico were arrested after they sold shabu to one of his operatives in Barangay Calulut around 10:20 p.m.
Confiscated from the suspects were five plastic sachets containing shabu and the marked money used in the operation.
David said the suspects will be charged with the violation of the Anti-dangerous Drug law.
“This is in line of City of San Fernando Police Office campaign against illegal drugs,” David said.

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga–Four persons, including a street vendor and a laborer, were arrested in a police drug buy bust operation in Olongapo City last Wednesday.
The arrested suspects were identified as Aristotle Torion, 30, Michael Rellente, 35, Willy Visda, 37, and Rolan Querubin, 34.
Police said the four were arrested after they sold shabu to a police poseur buyer in the house of Rellente at 1619 Rizal Ave in Barangay West Tapinac about 6 p.m.
Confiscated from the suspects are plastic sachets containing shabu and the marked money used in the operation.
The suspects, together with seized items, were brought to the Olongapo City Police Station 2 for proper disposition.

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–Governor Lilia G. Pineda on Friday led the grand opening of UNIQLO, a leading Japanese clothes retailer at SM City Pampanga, as she vowed to support the clothing company in the province.
The branch at the mall is UNIQLO’s fourth in the country, according to Chief Operating Officer (COO) Katsumi Kubota. He added that the clothing line currently has 1,200 stores in 13 countries.
Pineda, in a brief message, said, “I assure you that the provincial government will give its full support.”
The governor accompanied by Second District Board Member Frances Olga David-Dizon led the cutting of ribbon of UNIQLO along with Kubota and SM Pampanga Mall Manager Lana Eroba.
At exactly 9 a.m. Friday, shoppers flocked in front of UNIQLO store to shop for the trendiest clothing that the global store could offer.
Kubota said the Japan-based top officials of the Uniqlo Co., LTD approved the branching out in Pampanga among all provinces in the country after he explained its vibrant economy and “different” purchasing power of its some 2 million residents.
Pampanga is considered the economic and business hub of the region with seven provinces.
Earlier, Pineda stressed that the growing economy in Pampanga is “most evident” with the SM’s three malls, one of them regarded as the largest shopping mall in Central Luzon, along with the shopping centers of other prominent firms operating in the province.
Kubota said UNIQLO, which has some global sales of 928 billion yen (about P372 billion) in 2012, is offering “Life Wear” products.
