Aquino: Being on top of the situation

January 26, 2011
JUST like what I have already mentioned in this column sometime in 2009, being prepared in times of health situations in the family is being on top of the situation despite the paralyzing effects of a crisis on one’s physical, mental and emotional states.
That is why it is very important to be calm in order to be in control.
I suggest the following exercise to help one to be on top of the situation especially if a medical emergency suddenly knocks on the door. Simply ask yourselves the following questions and rehearse it so that it gets through your subconscious, stays there, and reminds you of them in the nick of time, so to speak:
1. Am I an active PhilHealth member? Was I able to pay my contributions when they fell due?
2. Is the nearest hospital PhilHealth-accredited?
3. In case the patient needs to be referred to better facilities, are they recognized by PhilHealth too?
4. Is my Member Data Record available or is it within reach? Do I have a photocopy of it? Is it updated?
Another question: If someone in the family has a medical problem and needs to be rushed to a hospital, do you know if they are qualified to avail of your privileges as a beneficiary under your membership?
