Biz group officials see better 2011

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Officials of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham) on Tuesday said they see a promising year ahead for the business sector here.
PamCham president Rene Romero said Pampanga can take advantage of its potentials in the “business triangle of Central Luzon” with the implementation of a comprehensive business, investment, and development plan for the province.
He said Pampanga lies within the heart of the Clark, Subic and Tarlac corridor, making it a perfect location for business and investment for industries anchored on import and export, logistics, manufacturing and business process outsourcing.
Romero said 2010 was marked with the completion of vital roads and routes that are conducive to business investment.
“The development of the roads that we have now from the time of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and the ongoing infrastructure road projects today are all part of the greater possibility in business investment for Pampanga,” Romero said.
The NLEx and SCTEx have been attracting business investments in Pampanga, as the routes have reduced travel time for commodities and services, he added.
Comprehensive plan
Romero said business development in Pampanga could be maximized through a comprehensive plan that is now being readied by the business sector, the Provincial Government, and local leaders here led by Governor Lilia Pineda and Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
The plan includes a full development approach that will deal with issues on employment, infrastructure services, and government policies on business like incentives and the like.
The plan is expected to be finalized before the start of the fiscal year and will contain projections on employment from the Department of Labor and Employment.
Incoming PamCham president Jim Jimenez said the group is very bullish about the plan, as it would entail the help of different sectors in the province.
Jimenez also expressed optimism that the Department of Public Works and Highways would soon finish the improvement works on the Jose Abad Santos Avenue and the widening project of the McArthur Highway here.
He said that infrastructure projects should be ready to usher in possible investment. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
