Bizmen assured of intensive anti-criminality drive

February 23, 2011

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Military and police officials here assured over the weekend members of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PamCham) of an intensified anti-criminality and security program.
Colonel Gregorio Catapang, 703rd Infantry Brigade commander, presented during PamCham’s 30th Kapihan the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) Internal Peace and Security Plan (IPSP) or “Bayanihan”, which is an open document shared, co-owned and co-crafted by other stakeholders.
Significant in the IPSP is the Barangay Volunteer Program where civilians will be given volunteer IDs, allowing them to report through text message, suspicious characters or activities directly to authorities.
Catapang also suggested that PamCham member’s establishments consider putting up closed-circuit television cameras in their premises so that the Army or the police will have video footages of the crimes or suspects facilitating their apprehensions.
Also exhaustively discussed during the Kapihan were the recent carjacking incidents that adversely affected the second-hand car sales industry in Pampanga.
Assistant Regional Director Jess Vitug of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Central Luzon director Sheldon Jacaban and Pampanga Police Director Edgardo Tinio cautioned car dealers and buyers to practice due diligence in checking and establishing the legalities of the transactions. They committed to extend assistance and facilitation to PamCham members in these efforts.
Both the Army and the Pampanga police promised to seriously monitor suspicious characters and apprehend criminals within their areas of responsibilities.
They also appealed for the support and help of the business sector to be extremely vigilant and report any untoward incidences or suspicious activities within and around their premises.
As a result of the Kapihan, the second-hand car dealers headed by Gozun decided to organize themselves so that their concerns will be more thoroughly discussed and proper coordination with the police authorities and the LTO will be facilitated. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
