Bouzeron is an interesting appellation based around the communes of Bouzeron and Chassey-le-Camp. It was elevated to AOC status in 1998. Throughout Burgundy the aligote grape is generally seen as a second level grape in terms of quality. Aligote wines from other areas of Burgundy can only use the generic labelling of Bourgogne Aligote and play second fiddle to those based on chardonnay.

However the grape does have its enthusiastic promoters including Aubert and Pamela de Villaine from the venerable Domaine de la Romanee-Conti who have bought into the Bouzeron area and now produces Aligote wines.
The best wines from this area are well worth seeking out, especially the Domaine A. et P. De Villaine Bouzeron Aligote which is produced from old vines that are tended organically and are hand picked.
