Capitol allots P4.5-M for BHW’s allowance

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–The Sangguniang Panlalawigan approved the provision of monthly honoraria for some 2,800 registered barangay health workers amounting to P4.5 million.

Governor Lilia “Nanay” G. Pineda announced the good news during the launching of the “Go 4 Health Campaign” of the Department of Health (DOH) at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center yesterday.

Members of community health teams – led by midwives and composed of barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, parent-leaders, and Sangguniang Kabataan members– will each receive a monthly allowance worth P250 for the period of June to December of 2013.

Pineda said the provincial board, particularly the Committee on Health led by Board Member Cris Garbo, finally approved her request for funding as the board members themselves recognized the efforts of BHWs when it comes to the promotion of health throughout the province.

Likewise, Dr. Leonita Gorgolon announced the health department’s provision of honoraria with same amount as approved by President Benigno Aquino III.
It was learned that members of the community health team are tasked to seek for pregnant women needing assistance and to refer such cases to respective birthing stations or rural health units; to monitor patients under the Tuberculosis Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (TB DOTS); and to assist in the establishment of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) Identification System.

Moreover, they are to gather every month to submit their reports and update their progress in said tasks.
