City’s foundation day events beneficial
December 10, 2010
ANGELES CITY — More than the usual street parties, the City Government has celebrated its 181st Foundation Day through activities that benefited ordinary Angeleños.
The city’s celebration started with an exhibit at the city library of the history of Angeles City’s 33 villages.
Following the exhibit was a massive tree-planting activity at the Taug Dike in Barangay Cuayan.
Fides Miranda, chief of the city’s youth and students’ bureau, has invited students from the city’s four major universities to participate in the tree planting.
More than 500 students from the Angeles University Foundation, Holy Angel University, Republic Central Colleges and Systems Plus College planted several seedlings.
“The tree-planting activity is in line with Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan’s goal of planting one million trees. Of course, we young Angeleños would like to take part in the campaign of our mayor to preserve the environment,” Miranda said.
Miranda said at least 2,000 seedlings of various trees like mahogany and bamboo have been planted.
Aside from the college students, some motorcycle clubs based in the city also took part in the activity. Other participants include city government employees and ordinary Angeleños.
After the tree-planting activity, the City Government hosted a job fair at the city library, where 25 private companies based in Clark Freeport and in the city offered hundreds of jobs.
Simultaneously held with the job fair was a medical mission at the City Hall.
Later, city officials held a thanksgiving Mass at the Holy Rosary Parish.
At nighttime, a cultural show featuring the city’s history, from being a village of San Fernando to an independent city, was shown. (Charlene Cayabyab)
