Council prescribes dress code to bar door girls
ANGELES CITY — The barangay council of Balibago passed an ordinance prescribing a dress code to door girls or doormen of night clubs along the entertainment area of Fields Avenue.
Balibago chairman Rodelio Mamac said there is a need to regulate the attires and behaviors of bar receptionists in order to prevent nuisance and maintain orderliness in the area.
Mamac said some of the entertainers, assigned as door girls, wear indecent clothes.
The barangay official also said that Balibago is at the forefront of the city’s entertainment industry as manifested by hundreds of local and international hospitality and food establishment operating 24 hours a day to cater to visiting foreign and local tourists.
In order to sustain this level of enthusiasm in the tourism industry, there is a need to set a decent dress code to assure that entertainment workers meet the standards and do not border on boundaries of obscenity, Mamac said.
Barangay Ordinance Number 11, Series of 2012 stipulates that Section 16 and 391 of the Local Government Code empowers the barangay council to approve ordinances for the general welfare of the barangay and prescribe penalties for any violation.
Mamac said the ordinance will also limit the number of doormen for every establishment in order to avoid troubles between the entertainers.
Some of the bar owners and managers expressed favorable response with the ordinance, according to Mamac.
However, the City Council has yet to review and approve the barangay ordinance.
It was learned that the City Council invited the barangay council in a hearing last Tuesday but the session did not push through due to lack of quorum.
