DILG holds talks on SK in Central Luzon

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) currently holds a series of public consultations on Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) in Central Luzon amidst calls to institute reforms or its abolition.
“This activity seeks to elicit views and generate broadly-based consensus on the categorical support or non-support for the SK so we may know whether or not to push through with the SK elections this October,” DILG Regional Director Florida Dijan explained.
In addition, these consultations hope to straighten out and clarify issues regarding the effectiveness of SK as a mechanism for promoting youth leadership and engagement in the community.
Participants include provincial representatives and stakeholders from the youth, key political leaders, and local government units.
Oversight and national government agencies involved in youth development such as Department of Education, Department of Social Welfare and Development, National Economic and Development Authority, Civil Service Commission, Commission on Higher Education, and Department of Budget and Management, as well as non-government organizations and civil society organizations, were likewise involved.
