Foundation to hold medical mission on eye disorder
January 8, 2011
BACOLOR — The Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) will be holding a medical mission today, Saturday, at the Jose A. Datu Medical Center (JADMC) as part of the socio-civic group’s 24th Founding Anniversary.
KDF trustee Sylvia Ordonez said the mission, which is the maiden activity of the new JADMC Eye Center, which has been set up in cooperation with the World Medical Relief Inc., will be serving more than 100 possible patients.
“This medical mission will see to the participation of our socio-civic partners in the Rotary, Soroptimist, Lions Club, Quota Pampanga and other partners in the government sector, as well as regular volunteers from the Physicians for Peace and the Arellano University,” Ordonez said.
The medical mission will concentrate on eye services on people with pterygium problems.
A pterygium is a non-cancerous growth of the clear, thin tissue that lays over the white part of the eye (conjunctiva).
Ordonez said the activity is special as it celebrates the founding anniversary of KDF and its various accomplishments here.
In the past two and a half years, KDF, along with its 50 partner organizations, has served more than 3,000 patients in Pampanga with its Walking Free Pampanga program, eye and facial reconstructive surgery and a dozen medical missions for children and pregnant women.
Ordoñez said they are also looking forward for the continued cooperation with their service partners here and stronger programs to serve more indigent Kapampangans needing medical help. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
