Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur Wine
Clos Prieur is a Premier Cru vineyard of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation in the Cote de Nuits sub-region of Burgundy. As such, wines made exclusively from grapes grown in the vineyard may claim the title Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru, and include the Clos Prieur name as part of the appellation title on labels.
All Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru wines are red and made from Pinot Noir grapes. They are produced from about 200 acres (80 hectares) of Premier Cru land, divided up into twenty-six individual sites (or climats), of which Clos Prieur is one.
Clos Prieur is located immediately south of Gevrey-Chambertin village, opposite Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru on the mid-slope of the Cote d’Or. The wider Clos Prieur lieu-dit consists of two walled vineyards, of which only the upper (Clos Prieur-Haut) site is Premier Cru classified.
