Guv to local governments: Spend a minute of prayer for Japan

CANDABA — The Provincial Government has urged local government units (LGUs) to spend one minute of silence during their flag ceremonies as a gesture of sympathy to Japan, which was hit earthquakes and tsunami recently.

Governor Lilia Pineda said the province of Pampanga owes part of the infrastructure development here to the government of Japan after Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991.

“We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the people of Japan who are now suffering from the damages brought about by the recent earthquake and tsunami…Let us pray that they will be able to pass this trial,” Pineda said in vernacular.

The governor also pointed out that Japan is one of the countries who first offered financial assistance in the forms of loan and grants after the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.

She likewise claimed that with the help of Japan, the province has regained stability and development in terms of infrastructures, which protected the entire province from natural calamities.

Pineda, meanwhile, expressed optimism that the Japanese Government could overcome the tragedy, which led to the death of thousands of people and caused massive devastation in the area.
