Housewife is first woman village chief

MINALIN — For the first time in the history of barangay politics in this municipality, a simple housewife was given the mandate by her village mates to become the first ever woman barangay executive.

Louella Garcia, wife of three term San Francisco 1 Barangay chairman Jaime Garcia is the first ever elected barangay chairwoman not only of her village but the entire 15 barangays of Minalin as well.
Vice-Mayor Edgar Yambao commended Mrs. Garcia for “making history” saying that it is “one for the books.”

Mrs. Garcia said she believes being a woman, she can further improve the barangay’s beautification and cleanliness programs which were started by his husband during his term as village chief.

Garcia won by a landslide victory of more than 175 votes in a three cornered fight.

She said aside from the clean and green programs she will also focus on livelihood projects as well as health care programs and infrastructure to assist her constituents. (Chris Navarro)a
