Hundreds get cash assistance
January 19, 2011
ANGELES CITY — Hundreds of Angeleños have benefited from the conditional cash assistance (CCA) or Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) being implemented by the Department of Social and Welfare Development (DSWD).
Some 1,500 families from seven barangays, including Sapalibutad, Anunas, Pulungbulu, Malabanias, Amsic, Pulung Maragul and Ninoy Aquino, received the accumulated amount for the first quarter of 2010 on Tuesday at the City Library and Information Center.
The families were chosen through a national household survey system to determine the most indigent among the 7,000 who were included in the selection.
The cash assistance program was initially implemented by former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and continued by President Aquino. It provides each of the chosen families P1,400 every month.
Families that receive the CCA from the 4Ps should spend the cash on the check-up of pregnant women in the family, vaccines for children, de-worming and basic school necessities.
Parents are also required to attend a seminar on budget planning, maintaining proper hygiene and proper family care from a modular guide which are conducted in partnership with various government offices such as the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO); Department of Interior and Local Government; City Health Office; Department of Education; and the City Planning and Development Office.
Heide Patio, head of the CSWDO, and Fritzie Joy Cunanan of the DSWD 4P program, supervised the distribution of cash assistance amounting to P10 million which was facilitated by the LandBank.
Mayor Edgardo D. Pamintuan, who also witnessed the event, said indigent people deserve assistance from the government.
“Ano pa ba ang magagawa natin para umusbong ang ekonomiya kung ‘di tulungan ang mga mahihirap?” Pamintuan also stressed. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
