Labor secretary graces family summit
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz graced the inaugural Philippine Global Family Summit and Caravan at the Tarlac Provincial Capitol.
Baldoz led the oath taking of the national officers of Global Workers & Family Federation Inc. (GWFFI), a private organization advocating for the general welfare and interest of the Filipino migrant workers and their families.
She also led the ceremonial signing of her agency’s agreement with the Provincial Government of Tarlac for the establishment of OFW Migrant desks in the province.
The desks, which will strategically be placed in the municipal and city halls, shall cater to various concerns of migrant workers and their families such as passporting; insurance claims; high school, college or vocational scholarships; and psycho-social counseling.
In her speech, Baldoz lauded the strong partnership of GWFFI and the Provincial Government in the crafting and implementation of programs and projects that cater to the well-being of over 35,000 Tarlaqueños overseas and their relatives who are left behind in the country.
“This partnership resulted in the establishment of 17 municipal-based, five city-based, two school-based and one church-based chapters of GWFFI across Tarlac,” Baldoz said.
Baldoz stressed that a number of programs catering to migrant workers are currently being implemented by her agency which is pursuant to 11 out of the 22 point Labor and Employment agenda of the Aquino administration.
This includes a strengthened campaign against illegal recruitment and human trafficking, professionalizing Filipino domestic helpers so that they will be given competitive salaries, and provision of skills trainings and livelihood grants to returning workers via the “Balik Pinay, Balik Hanap Buhay” program.
“I have also personally tasked our Philippine Overseas Labor Offices all over the globe to look for ways in expediting the cases faced by our kababayans in their respective countries of assignment. POLOs were likewise ordered to establish Filipino Workers Resource Centers which provides labor-related counseling,” Baldoz said.
