CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. said Tuesday that the total amount of his scholarship allocation has now reached P23.7 million for School Year 2010-2011, which will result to more scholarship grants to indigent students of his district.
An official overview data from the congressman’s office reveal that Gonzales has allocated some P2.3 million for the schooling of 7,695 day care students for this school year alone. Some 708 elementary students were also given an allocation of P294,905.
The official’s college scholarship education program under the “Iskolar ng Dong” project holds a standing 3,205 students in different vocational and Bachelor of Science Courses. The college scholarship program has a budget of P12 million for this school year.
Gonzales also maintains additional scholars at the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU), to maintain a standing number of enrollees in the said satellite campus, ensure its continued operation and to entice more students in the western barangays of Mexico to enroll there.
Gonzales currently maintains 850 scholars in the said campus with a budget of P2.7 million as well as a standing Training for Work Program with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority with a budget of P1.5 million. The trainings include various short-term courses for employment like bartending and auto-mechanic courses.
“This budget allocation would benefit a significant number of students and we are aiming at increasing the budget allocation in the coming years,” Gonzales said, stressing that the scholarship grants are monitored by government agencies and related departments.
The “Iskolar ng Dong” program is also expected to branch out into continuing education programs and bridge programs for out-of-school youths in the coming years.
An official from the Commission on Education (Ched), who refused to be named, said Gonzales is one of the few officials in the province with a serious scholarship assistance program and a massive scholarship scope.
